Job Description:
Prepare and serve the appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements. Maintains high standards in food production, sanitation, and safety practices. The food service employee is responsible for the efficient operation of his/her assigned area. The food service employee must uphold the policies and standards of the School Nutrition Department.

Hours Per Day: 6.5
Salary Range:
Minimum: $11.73/hour (24-25 salary schedule)
Salary commensurate with related experience
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Texas Food Handler’s Certificate required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work tactfully and pleasantly with people
Ability to read, write and understand verbal and written instructions
Demonstrate professional appearance and cleanliness in work habits
Ability to coordinate and produce work in allotted time
Ability to handle money efficiently and perform basic mathematical calculations
Positive attitude toward work and other school personnel
Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to work in cold or below zero environment for short periods of time
Must be able to work in a hot and humid environment
Experience:
3 months of institutional or retail food service preparation preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Food Preparation and Serving:
- Prepare quality food according to a planned menu of tested, uniform recipes.
- Maintain proper storage and care of food items and supplies.
- Perform cashiering duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate knowledge and follow care and use of equipment.
- Meet all scheduled meal times, portions, and serve the food per policy and procedures.
Safety and Sanitation:
- Maintain sanitary work conditions to eliminate cross-contamination.
- Perform cleaning tasks as assigned.
- Assist in maintaining adequate health requirements in the cafeteria that meet or exceed all local, state, and national regulations.
- Maintain proper temperature of all food items according to HACCP regulations and log them on a daily basis.
- Enforce standards of cleanliness, health, and safety.
- Maintain professional appearance and hygiene.
Other Job Functions:
- Promote teamwork and cooperation with coworkers and supervisors.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to students and coworkers.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
- Complete other tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions
Mental Conditions/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Continual standing, walking, pushing and pulling; frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing (ladder), frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures. Maintains emotional control under stress.
Environment:
Moderate to heavy exposure to hot and cold temperatures, steam and wet floors and cleaning chemicals.
